There's no arguing that man's best friend is a furry, four-legged creature, especially if that man (or woman) is a bird hunter.  But your next best friend, and your bird dogs as well, just might be an ATV or Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicle, particularly when you consider the advantages it offers the bird hunter.

A typical hunter leaves their vehicle by the road-side and hunts on foot.  That means whatever distance you walk from your vehicle you’ll have to cover again returning to it. As a result, most folks tend not to stray too far from the road system.

Today, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series announced that the August 7th and 8th, Southern California event, will be held at the legendary Glen Helen Raceway. The landmark facility in San Bernardino, California, has an extensive history of off road and motocross racing while hosting a multitude of national and international events.

Lucas Oil Executive-Vice President, Bob Patison, spoke on the agreement as preparations are already underway for the August race. “Over the years, Bud Feldkamp has built Glen Helen into a world class destination for motocross and off road racing. With this partnership, we are able to work together to build a unique, new, short course off road race track on the Glen Helen site that will have all of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing signature features that keep fans on their feet race after race. We look forward to building this relationship with Bud and his staff.”

Bud Feldkamp, President of Glen Helen Raceway, expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership. “I am excited to have the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at Glen Helen Raceway and for the future of short course off road racing!” He added, “Together we will create a successful and stable event here in Southern California for the fans and race teams to enjoy.”

We all look forward to opening day with excitement and anticipation. A brand new season brings renewed hope and a slew of naive birds that haven't been called to or hunted in months. But the novelty soon ends. Birds that don’t get culled out early soon wise up. Then, as the days grow longer still, the randy toms’ breeding instincts start to wane, making them even harder still to hunt. Yet hope springs eternal in the turkey woods.

Some of the same tactics you used early on may work, but in order to boost your odds of being successful in the late season, you may need to modify, adapt and overcome.

Racer Productions, producers of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, has announced the third-annual season of the UTV/side-by-side portion of the GNCC series.

Class Championships will be determined by a team's best finishes in a minimum number of five events. A team must enter a minimum of five events in order to be eligible for series awards and national class ranking. The minimum number of events does not have to be in the same class. AMA Membership is not required to compete in the UTV classes.

The UTVs will race at the following GNCC rounds:

Rd 4 Pirelli Big Buck , Union, S.C. , April 10-11
Rd 7 Moose Mountain Ridge, Somerset, PA, May 22-23

Rd 13 The Ironman, Crawfordsville, IN, October 23-24
